BABYCAKES & BRUNCH AND LA’SHAES SHINE BRIGHT FOR FAMILIES THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

Houston area nonprofits partner together to provide a joyous Christmas for struggling families

Houston, TX, November 28, 2017 – To close out a challenging year, BabyCakes & Brunch (BCB) and La’Shaes will partner together for the annual Christmas in the Neighborhood celebration to be hosted on December 17 from 3 p.m. to 6p.m. at the offices of Baby, Cakes and Brunch located at 340 N Sam Houston Parkway, Houston, TX 77060. This is the fifth year that BabyCakes & Brunch will host this event. Over 25 families have been outfitted over the years with gifts for both parents and their children for the holiday season. The 2017 goal is to provide gifts for at least ten families of four or more.

“The holiday season is tough time of year for our collective mental health in a normal year,” says Kay Matthews, founder and director of BabyCakes & Brunch. “With the devastation of Harvey, we felt like we needed to expand what we’ve always done and reach more families. There are still lots of families in our area that have not recovered, or in some cases are still displaced. We wish to do our part to assist some of the affected families that they may have a fulfilled holiday despite their losses.”

Lakiesha Thomas founder of La’Shaes couldn’t agree more, “We are excited to partner with BabyCakes & Brunch to impact lives in a meaningful way this holiday season. What I love most about this collaboration is that we’re making sure we get the parents something as well. A lot of times the focus is primarily on the children, for good reason, but to add a little something for the parents to let them know that they are not forgotten, is nothing but icing!”

The celebration on December 17th will follow another worthy event hosted by BCB. BabyCakes & Brunch and its signature program, The Shades of Blue Project, will commemorate the grand opening of their service space, which is also the location of the Christmas in the Neighborhood Celebration, with a health fair on December 9th at 11 a.m.

To assist as many families as possible, BCB is accepting cash and in-kind donations via www.bcbtx.org. Nominations of families in need may be completed via the website as well. The nomination period for families is open until December 2, 2017.

BabyCakes & Brunch is a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization. BCB is a certified Texas Diaper Bank that provides for the physical needs of mothers and their children via distribution of diapers, toiletries, and clothing before and after child birth.

BabyCakes & Brunch’s signature program, The Shades of Blue Project, is dedicated to helping minority women who are suffering from postpartum depression and/or anxiety. Support is available to our mothers before, during and after child-birth. The goal of Shades of Blue Project is to reach women globally, helping to restore them mentally, physically and spiritually.
